Pinellas County Tax Lien Guide

A federal tax lien filed in Pinellas County attaches to everything you own. Here is how it works and what to do about it.

When the IRS files a Notice of Federal Tax Lien in Pinellas County, it's recorded with the Pinellas County Clerk of the Circuit Court. The lien attaches to all your property: your home in Shore Acres, your condo in downtown St. Pete, your vehicle, your bank accounts, even property you acquire later.

The lien shows up on title searches and affects your credit. You can't sell or refinance without dealing with it. But a lien is not a seizure. The IRS almost never forces the sale of a Florida homestead.

Removing the Lien

Lien withdrawal removes the public notice if you enter a Direct Debit installment agreement. Lien discharge clears the lien from specific property at closing. Lien subordination lets a new mortgage take priority. Each requires a specific IRS application and typically takes 30-45 days.

If an IRS lien is affecting your property or credit in Pinellas County, let's talk about your options.
